Anyone reading this website please understand that I am a very long time care giver, support person, proactive health care advocate and activist and a depression lay-expert to my spouse as well as a former DBSA facilitator, president, board member of a local chapter and a Florida State appointment as a Guardian Advocate. I am not endorsing the use of any medication(s), treatment(s) and/or therapy(ies). I am just trying to share some of our experiences, research, knowledge and readings over these many years especially as it relates to the VNS Therapy(TM) in the hope it may benefit the prospective patient, patient and/or his/her support persons. We have also greatly benefited in knowledge and friendship from the local support groups in our area including the DBSA (formerly the DMDA) and NAMI.  Most importantly is to be educated to make informed and un-coerced medical decisions in consultation with a trusted, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and licensed health care professional(s).

This website is paid for out of my own resources.  I receive absolutely no monies nor do I have any aids, ads or sponsors.  I have been asked and upon several occasions been accused of being a paid shill for Cyberonics Inc.  My spouse was a study subject (December 1999) in the Cyberonics D-01 Depression study as a participant at MUSC.  I am not, nor have I in any way shape or fashion received one cent in remuneration and/or compensation of any kind from Cyberonics and/or any other health care entity.  Although, Joyce did receive some monies as a study participant, that’s between her and the study group, I personally have not seen one cent.  She has all the money, that’s why I married her (just joking).  I have recently (September 2004) stood by my conclusions and convictions based upon my years of observations and empirical data collection that the VNS Therapy System(TM) is efficacious for Joyce and a percentage of patients and I purchased stock in CYBX.  I certainly am not an Einstein but to paraphrase Peter Lynch, “Invest in what you know” and I do know what has and has not been of benefit for Joyce.

Please participate in the site and I hope my efforts are worthwhile but more importantly I wish you and/or your loved one’s freedom from “the beast” TRD and/or Epilepsy.
